"A kiss is just a kiss?"

Of course you all know the story of Sleeping Beauty. Here is prolific (over 150 books) and talented (Caldecott Medal) illustrator Trina Schart Hyman’s look at the moment just after the prince and princess have kissed, reawakening the entire castle from its 100-year nap. That’s Briar Rose with the red hair, one arm around her guy, the other around her father and mother. Notice how Hyman fills a full 50% of the two-page spread with an explosion of ebullient kids, dogs, horses, pigeons—you name it, even a monk—grinning and laughing, to emphasize what a huge event this was. Just one kiss. Wow!
