Bonjour, Mes Amis! It is time to wake up, as these two sleepyheads in The Bed by French artist Henri Toulouse-Lautrec are just realizing. Why now? Because there are only 14 days left until Valentine's Day, and The Art of Love 2022 is in countdown. (If you are not interested, please let me know at [email protected], and I'll strike you right off the list, with my apologies.) This tender moment was painted by HTL in 1892 and is now in the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. Today where I'm writing from, it's 3 degrees F (stay in bed!). In Paris it's 46F (you can get up, non?).

I love that the painting is called "The Bed" when its subject is . . . something else. Two people? Sexual intercourse? Love? Fatigue? Warmth? Morning? All of the above . . .

I do love this painting. I think they have at least an hour before they have to get up, and a nice wood stove to get dressed in front of, while the. Coffee brews.
